It was literally groundbreaking news for LaRosa Building Group’s new project, 216 South Division Street, on July 29, 2021, with the official ceremony hosted by the City of Peekskill Industrial Development Agency (PIDA).
Expected to open in Fall 2022, on the site of a once dilapidated building, this three-story building with 27,000 square foot mixed-use residential and commercial site will feature:
22 market-rate apartments
2,000 square feet of retail/commercial space on the ground level
A parking garage underneath the building.
In keeping with the city’s historic district, the building’s design, by Peekskill Architect Joe Thompson, includes clapboard and stone with dormers along with shingling and arched gable windows. To enhance the design, our construction team carefully removed an existing stone wall and will be incorporating those stones as a finish to the foundation of the new building.
Named for its location at 216 South Division Street, Peekskill, NY, our construction team faced the technical challenge of building on the site’s steep slope. Since the digging of the foundation was so close to the street, steel shoring was used instead of sheet piles to safely build a trench and prevent the street from falling into the foundation.
When the project is completed, Peekskill will have a mixed-use residential and commercial property that pays homage to the original history of the town yet offers the quality housing and much-needed retail space consistent with downtown Peekskill’s downtown revitalization plan.
